Oxford Language Dictionaries Online

Oxford Language Dictionaries Online is now available to UCL users. This resource comprises fully searchable bilingual dictionaries in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish. The content available is the full A-Z text (both sides of the dictionary) from Oxford’s unabridged bilingual dictionaries (French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish); the Chinese dictionary is currently the Pocket Oxford Chinese.) Supplementary material from the dictionaries, and study guides, are also available.

Who’s Who and Who Was Who

UCL has a trial of Who’s Who and Who Was Who via Oxford University Press http://www.ukwhoswho.com/ until 16 November 2008. We have had access to these databases through KnowUK ( Who’s Who ; Who Was Who .), but this has been discontinued. Who’s Who contains more than 33,000 short biographies of living noteworthy and influential individuals, from all walks of life, worldwide. Who Was Who comprises over 100,000 entries from the archives of Who’s Who dating back to 1898.

New Database: Scopus

UCL has a subscription to a new indexing and abstracting database, Scopus , from Elsevier. It covers science, technology, medicine and social sciences. This is available both onsite and offsite with UCL username and password at the following URL: http://www.scopus.com/scopus/home.url Note that offsite login for UCL for this resource does not use Athens, it uses the new mechanism (Institutional Login) which is already in use for resources such as OvidSP Medline. World Health Report 2008

You can view the full text of Now more than ever , the 2008 World Health Report report, on the World Health Organization website. The World Health Report 2008 was launched on 14th October. The report focuses on primary health care and how health systems can become more equitable, inclusive and fair.

Clinical Knowledge Summaries

The Clinical Knowledge Summaries (CKS) are a reliable online source of evidence-based information and practical ‘know how’ about the common conditions managed in primary and first-contact care. To enhance the service the first in a series of CKS audio podcasts on ‘hot’ clinical issues have been developed and are available at http://www.cks.library.nhs.uk/knowledgeplus/podcasts. The latest edition of the Cochrane library is now searchable on the NLH Evidence Hub. Global Health Watch 2

The UCL Institute for Global Health and Zed Books are launching ‘Global Health Watch 2: An Alternative World Health Report’ (GHW2) on 16 October 2006 at UCL. The book covers a range of health challenges including the continued growth in global poverty, climate change, war, food prices, and water and sanitation.
