Training at GOSH -Search 2.0

A comprehensive training programe on using the new Search 2.0 interface will be provided from April – please see dates below. Message to NHS Athens Users - Changes to accessing and using electronic resources

This message is to let all the NHS Athens users that from 1st April 2008 there will be a change in the access of the NHS electronic resources. Firstly, you will no longer be able to search the databases via Dialog. There will be a new way to search all electronic content purchased nationally for the NHS. The new search engine, called Search 2.0 , is currently being tested by NHS librarians. It will be the main discovery tool to locate articles from the following primary databases: * PubMed/Medline * Cinahl * Embase * Alternative and Complementary Medicine Database * British Nursing Index * PsycINFO. * Health Management Information Consortium (HMIC) It is designed to simplify searching by ending reliance on different supplier systems to access resources. The planned national launch date is 1 April 2008 and there will be a two month overlap between the Dialog databases (except Cinahl) and Search 2.0 during this transitional period. Behind the Headlines

The National Library for Health’s Hitting the Headlines health news service will end on 31 March 2008. The National Library for Health will continue to provide users with access to high quality news analysis via the Behind the Headlines service provided by NHS Choices: http://www.nhs.uk/News/Pages/NewsIndex.aspx . This service will be available on the NLH homepage as of 1st April 2008. In addition to this, the searchable Hitting the Headlines archive will be retained: http://www.library.nhs.uk/rss/newsAndRssArchive.aspx?storyCategory=0 Behind the Headlines provides an unbiased and evidence-based analysis of health stories that make the news on a daily basis and from 1 April will work to the standards developed by the Hitting the Headlines to enhance their service even further.

Library Easter Opening Hours

The library will be closed from Wednesday 19th March from 2.00 pm for the Easter break and will re-open on Wednesday 26th March at 9am. Out of ours access will be available to library members when the building is open.

National NHS databases move to Search 2.0

The National Library for Health will be changing its NHS databases service from the end of March 2008. The databases have previously been supplied by Dialog will now be via a service called Search 2.0 and will be accessible using an NHS Athens account. The NLH have announced that it will not be possible to automatically migrate any saved searches to the new system. PLEASE NOTE: if you have email alerts or saved searches within the existing Dialog service, you will need to set them up again when Search 2.0 goes live

JAMA Archives journals for the NHS

The National Library for Health (NLH) now includes online access to JAMA (1998-present) collection of Archives journals. You can link to these journals through your My Library section within NLH. When you have logged in with your NHS Athens accountsimply click through to MyAthens Resources

Essential Science Indicator

Essentials Science Indicators is now a subscribed service for UCL and is delivered via the Web of Knowledge . ESI is an in-depth analytical tool offering data for ranking scientists, institutions, countries, and journals. It provides performance statistics and trends for science, using journal article publication and citation counts as indicators of influence and impact. For lists of highly cited researchers around the world also see ISI's Highly Cited .

New Web of Knowledge Interface

The Web of Knowledge (WoK) has switched to a new interface. The new look offers the same functions as before but with improved 'tabbed' navigation and the introduction of tools to allow for analysis of your search results. If you have saved searches or set up email alerts, these will not be affected by the interface change. For a WoK training leaflet please click here.

CINAHL for ICH/UCL

The UCL subsciption to CINAHL has switched from WebSPIRS to the EbscoHOST service: Offsite access requires a UCL computing account. To set up a UCL computing accound please contact ISU. To access CINAHL via EbscoHOST click here .

CINAHL full text for the NHS

The National Library for Health (NLH) now includes online access to the CINAHL full text collection. This resource is part of the NHS National Core Content collection from 1st April 2008 but access has been switched on early. You can link to the collection through your My Library section within NLH . First log in with your NHS Athens account and then simply click through to MyAthens Resources

17-21 March 2008 National Knowledge Week for Hearing

The National Knowledge Week for Hearing will commence on 17th March with the aim of presenting expert commentaries on key hearing disorder topics, supported by relevant research evidence from the past 12 months. Blackwell Backfiles

UCL staff and students now have online access to a number of Blackwell backfiles. NHS users may access these titles from walk-in computers in the library. Elsevier backfiles -The Lancet

UCL now has access to Elsevier's backfiles on ScienceDirect . This means that electronic content back to volume 1, issue 1 of most Elsevier journals is now available to UCL users. Previously, Elsevier journals were only available online from 1993 or 1995. As part of the Elsevier backfile (see previous item), UCL users now have acces to the The Lancet from Volume 1, 1823 onwards. NHS users may access Elsevier journals from the walk-in computers in the library.
